What Is IDNO? How to Verify a Moldovan Company by IDNO (2026 Guide)

Echipa Datero

What IDNO Means

IDNO is the State Identification Number — a unique 13-digit code assigned to every legal entity registered in Moldova (SRL, SA, sole proprietorship, NGO, public institution). It is assigned once at registration and stays the same for the entity's entire life, even if the company changes its name, address, or founders.

In short: IDNO is the company's "ID card". For individuals there is IDNP; for companies there is IDNO. They are different things (see below).

You will see it on invoices, contracts, stamps, bank statements, and in the state register.

How to Find the IDNO of a Moldovan Company

If you have the company name and want to find its IDNO, there are three free ways:

  1. On Datero.md — type the name (or part of it) and get the IDNO plus everything else: status, address, founders, financial reports. The fastest option.
  2. On the invoice or contract you received — the IDNO is required by law. If your partner doesn't put it on documents, something is off.
  3. At ASP (Public Services Agency) — order an official paid extract with digital signature.

For 95% of use cases, a Datero.md search is enough. Our data is synced with the state register.

IDNO Structure: What Each Digit Means

The 13 digits are not random:

  • Digit 1 — legal form: 1 for commercial companies (SRL, SA), 0 for sole proprietorships and other forms
  • Digits 2-3 — last two digits of the registration year
  • Digits 4-5 — type of registration and territorial unit code
  • Digits 6-13 — unique sequential number

Concrete example: 1003600005148 belongs to MOLDOVAGAZ SA. Digit 1 = commercial company. 03 = registered in 2003. The rest is the unique number in the state register.

Another: 1014600043319 = PREMIER ENERGY SRL, registered in 2014.

IDNO vs IDNP: Don't Mix Them Up

This is the most common confusion. Short version:

  • IDNO = code for companies (legal entities). 13 digits. Usually starts with 1 or 0.
  • IDNP = code for individuals (natural persons). 13 digits. Printed on your ID card.

Both are 13 digits, hence the confusion. If you have a 13-digit code and don't know which it is: if the first digits are 19 or 20 (birth year), it is almost certainly IDNP. If it starts with 1 or 0 followed by digits that look like a recent year, it is IDNO.

When you sign a contract with a company, the document contains both: the company's IDNO and the IDNP of the director signing on its behalf.

IDNO vs Tax Code: Same Number?

In most cases, IDNO = tax code. For standard SRLs and SAs, it is the same number. When someone asks for "the company's tax code", you give the IDNO.

Exceptions exist only for international organizations, diplomatic missions, and a few foreign representative offices, where the tax code is separate. For 99% of regular Moldovan companies, it is the exact same number.

Practical tip: on Datero.md, use the IDNO as the universal identifier. If you only have the name, search by it and the IDNO shows up automatically.

How to Verify a Company by IDNO (Step by Step)

Step 1. Go to Datero.md.

Step 2. Enter the 13 digits — no spaces, no dashes.

Step 3. Open the company page. You will see:

  • Current status (active, suspended, in liquidation, deleted)
  • Registration date and registered office
  • Financial reports for recent years (revenue, profit, headcount)
  • Founders and directors, with links to all their other companies
  • Affiliation network

Why IDNO Matters in Business

Two companies can have nearly identical names — "Construct SRL" exists in dozens of variants. The IDNO removes any ambiguity. If someone offers you a contract and hesitates to share the IDNO, that's a red flag.

In practice, IDNO helps you:

  • Confirm the company really exists and is active
  • See financial history before signing
  • Find out if the founder has other companies (and in what state)
  • Open a bank account, issue an invoice, or register your own company with the correct CAEM code

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an IDNO change?

No. Once assigned, the IDNO stays with the company for its entire life, even if the name, address, or director changes. It disappears only when the entity is fully removed from the register.

Can I find an IDNO by the director's name?

Yes. On Datero.md search by person name and you get all companies where they appear as founder or director.

I found two companies with the same IDNO. Is that possible?

No. IDNO is guaranteed unique in the state register. If you see what looks like a duplicate, it is most likely two historical records of the same company (before and after a change).

How do I check if an IDNO is real or made up?

Search for it on Datero.md. If nothing comes up for the 13 digits, the IDNO does not exist. It may be fabricated or mistyped.

Is the IDNO on the state register extract?

Yes, it is the first line of any official extract. See our guide on how to get an extract.
